Gerry McCabe began our rise to fame by becoming the first person to reach the National finals, losing in the final of the National Juniors to Liam Conway in 1994/95.

In 1997/1998 Diarmuid McMahon joined Gerry McCabe’s exploits in losing in the final of the juniors to Sean Trainor and in that year Gerry Crosby, Kevin Conroy and Hughie McDonough from Redeemer were also narrowly beaten in the final of the trips by Sean Davidson.

While success didn't come in the nationals until 2002, it was in the following year in the Champion of Champions that success finally arrived. Hughie McDonough's trip made up for last year’s loss by winning the Champion of Champions trips in 1998. This win entitled them to play in the World Championships in the Isle of Man in 2000. This world championship would go down in history as the first time a team from the Republic would become World Champions.

In 1999/2000 season, Kevin reached the final of the National Rinks playing with Anne Taaffe, Eileen McDonald and Danny McDonald but came up against the Trainor Brothers from Craigavon and were beaten.

In 2001/2002 the trip of Jimmy, Brendan and Diarmuid McMahon reached the final of the National Trips, were he faced Tommy McGaan, Paul Reid and Eddie Marsden. Unfortunately Jimmy took ill before the final and Patsy Martin replaced him but this did not stop them taking home the first National Title to the South. However not alone did one National Title that arrive that year but two, with Conor Mackin also claiming victory in the National Juniors by winning in one of the largest score lines ever in the finals.

In 2002/2003 Diarmuid’s triple went onto to claim second place in the British and also reached the final of the Champion of Champions trips just missing out on the illustrious double. Kevin Conroy however wasn't so unlucky when he went on to win the Champion of Champions singles. This would again entitle him to play in World’s.

The 2003/2004 season would end up to be one of the most successful seasons of all time for Oriel. Diarmuid McMahon followed Kevin Conroy into the World Singles when he won the Champion of Champions Singles. This was to be the first time that any zone had the two Irish singles players in the worlds. Kevin however was not finished and ended up winning the Champion of Champions pairs with Fra Dillon, a fantastic double on the day. The success did not end there as Kevin went on to win the National Singles that year by beating Brendan McGuiness in the final.

Unfortunately in the worlds we only came back with two runner-up spots with Kevin finishing second in the singles and Fra in the pairs.

In 2006/2007 Billy Taaffe playing with Kevin Conroy, Aidan Conroy and Fra Dillon, reached the final of the Champion of Champions rinks eventually losing to Colum McHugh in a close encounter. That season we had our first success in the ladies championships with Carol McMahon playing with Imelda Hanratty, Mae Flanagan and Andrea Flanagan winning the much coveted Ladies Rinks Title by beating such rinks as Joanne McIntyre and Pauline Castles on the way.

In 2008/2009 Michelle Martin and Paul Duff were beaten in the final of the Champion of Champions Pairs. Gerry McCabe had a fantastic National Series, in winning the National Singles by beating Liam McHugh in the final and getting to the final of the National Rinks with Billy Taaffe, Fra Dillon and Gerry Crosby losing to Aidan Corrigan in the final. Philip Mackin and Calum Cummiskey were narrowly beaten in the National Junior Pairs final.

In 2009/2010 Gerry McCabe took home the British Isles singles title.to cap off a remarkable 6 months. Philip Mackin and Calum Cummiskey won the National Junior Pairs which made up for the previous season. This was the only title at junior level that eluded Oriel. They were electric throughout and never gave anybody a chance. Our junior success was not finished however, as Shane Hand took home the National Junior Singles title and in so doing became the youngest ever National Junior Champion. Paddy Hanlon also reached the final of the National Singles that year, after playing some magical bowls to qualify. In the final he came up against an in-form Alan Paul in the final and was beaten. Champion_of_Champions_2010_054 In 2010/2011 Paddy Hanlon’s defeat was forgotten as he won the Champion of Champion trips with John Murnaghan lead, Paddy 2nd and Gerry McCabe skipping. Kevin Conroy made history that day also by becoming the only man to win all the Champion of Champions title by claiming the Fours with partners, Jim Fox, Fra Dillon Billy Taaffe. Oriel also created history in the Nationals when Niall Hand won the Junior Pairs with Brother Jason and took the Junior Singles Cup home that brother Shane had the previous year. The success did not end there for the Corduff Club as Rachel Brennan and Sadie Larkin won the Ladies Pairs. Philip and Conor Mackin were very unfortunate to lose in the Final of the National Pairs losing out in an extra end to John Quinn.
