After last year's incredible victory by Sadie Larkin and Rachel Brennan in winning the Ladies Pairs title outright, hopes were high that the title could once again remain in the Oriel Zone Preliminary Round: There were no major surprises in this round as Gwen Dunne beat Audrey Woods, Patricia Hanlon disposed of Noreen Smith, Bernie Cunningham knocking out Mary Gartlan and Carol McMahon easily disposing of Anne Maguire.
Quater Final Patricia and Margaret took their game to a new level by beating one of the favourites Imelda Hanratty and Carol McMahon. Bridge and Menina had another fantastic result beating the 2nd mother daughter pairing in a row in Mae and Andrea Flanagan. However it was not all bad news for Carrickmacross B.C.as Maureen Conlon and Geraldine Boyle sprang the biggest surprise of the evening knocking out the defending Champions Sadie Larkin and Rachel Brennan. Theresa Finnegan and Brenda Mackin ran out victors against the Crossmaglen pair skipped by Maureen Nugent. Semi Final (Last Game of the Day) Margaret Carrol and Patricia Hanlon eliminated the last remaining Carrick pairing and reached the final of the Ladies Pairs for the second time in three seasons and this time they will face their neighbours from Lordship Menina Birch and Bridge Duffy who beat the Darver pair. Â This was a very entertaining nights bowling filled with surprises and twists throughout the night. |
