First Round ReportIn the first round we witnessed the biggest surprise of the day, when Carol McMahon (skip on the women's team) and John McMahon (3rd on the men's team) where soundly beaten by Kevin Murphy from Silverbridge. One of the tougher matches to call was James Hanlon (Cooley) against Ollie Kierans (Darver) and in a great game Ollie just piped James. Brendan McCabe ran away with his match against Gerard McKeown from Whitecross while Jim Harmon beat his old clubamate Dermot Mckenna. |

2nd Round ReportAfter his success against Jim Harmon, Ollie Kierans was involved in another tough match, this time against Anthony Reel (Cullyhaana). This was a tight affair and with the last bowl Anthony came out victorious. Jim Harmon continued his success by disposing of John McMahon's victor Kevin Murphy. Paddy Kennedy (Shercock), who always performs in this competition, knocked out Paul Carry 12-5. Enda Traynor took a massive lead against Brendan McCabe and while Brendan fought back valiantly to 10-6, the lead was just too big and Enda reached the last game of the day. The tie of the round undoubtedly went to our two Zone 2nd's Sean Conlon and Thomas Gartlan. Sean took an early 4 shot lead and never let the lead drop. With that result we were guaranteed a new champion. Oliver Donaldson was involved in the game of the day against Michael Trainor. With the last bowl in hand Oliver had the game against him. He played a magical last bowl for victory. |
Quarter Final Report (Last Game of the Day) 1. Oliver Donladson playing with Tom Rushe easily beat Bernie Sexton and became the first pair through to the finals night. 2. His club mates Anthony Reel and Patsy Burns weren't far behind in reaching the semi's once again, running away easy victors. 3. Paddy and Mae Kennedy continued his remarkable run this time beating Enda Traynor. Paddy was always in control of the game and in the end won 11-5. 4. Sean and Maureen Conlon had the tightest match of the quarter-final. Sean was 3 up last end but playing his last bowl had 3 shots against him. Sean fired with his last bowl and cut it down to 2 for victory. |
