1st Round Report:

The first surprise of the evening came when Billy Taaffe and Bridge McAleer lost to Peader Hamill. This surprise was quickly followed by 2 more when Brendan McMahon and Imelda Hanratty lost Eamon Bennett and Thomas and Mary Gartlan lost to Paul Carey. Other notable results were Patricia Hanlon beating the always dangerous Paddy Griffin and Johnny Holmes coming from 3 down playing the last end to pick up a count of 4 against Mae Flanagan.

3rd Round Report

Oliver Donaldson playing with Tom Rushe looked unbeatable against Peter Byrne winning with an end to spare. This setup a quarter-final tie against Brendan McCabe and Seamus Murnaghan who themselves had a fantastic game with Kevin Murphy. Damien Taaffe easily beat Noel Campbell and now faced the mother and daughter combination of Catherine and Gabriel McArdle who beat Margaret Carroll. The tightest match of this round was between Kevin Boyle and Pat Cunningham and it took a tape to separate the two, with Pat winning by the narrowest of margins. Their next opponents would be Paul Carey, who was now on a role beating Pat and Bernie Sexton. The bowl of the night came when Gerry Goss drew to the ditch line to claim victory from the jaws of defeat to beat T Bannon.
