Kilkerley Open Trips Tournament PDF Print E-mail

The 7th Annual Open Triples Tournament organised by Kilkerley Bowls Club in Kilkerley Community & Enterprise Centre was once again a great success and attracted over 200 bowlers from all the leading Bowls Clubs over a wide area.There where many surprise results throughout the tournament. 

With these 8 teams in contention, the finals on Saturday night 26th.Sept looked to be mouthwatering. The large crowd of spectators present were treated to many excellent shots throughout the night. The qualifying sessions were held over 4 nights and the following were the teams who qualified:

Tuesday Night    
Gerry Mc.Cabe's team, Redeemer.
Wednesday Night:
Paul Duff's team, Louth;
Danny Mc.Donald's team, St.Anthony's, Craigavon.
Thursday night:    
Enda Traynor's team, Kilanny;
Nick Haire's team,  Hillsborough Social Club.
Friday night:        
Michael Hand's team, Corduff;
Nicky Garvey's team, Pontzpass;
Gareth Mc.Mahon's team,  Carrickmacross.


In the quarter finals Michael Hand’s team defeated Paul Duff’s, Gareth Mc.Mahon’s team were beaten by Nick Haire’s team, Gerry Mc.Cabe’s team beat Enda Traynor’s team and Danny Mc.Donald’s team overcame Nicky Garvey’s team.

The semi-finals were the most closely contested games of the night with the teams level till the last bowl was thrown in each game. Nick Haire’s team eventually beat the Corduff trio while Gerry Mc.Cabe’s team overcame the team from Craigavon. 

In the Final the experience of the Redeemer trio won over the young team from Hillsborough, Nick Haire, George Carson and Nathan Haire who had reached the Final on their first visit to Kilkerley. The "Frank Hanratty Memorial Cup" was presented to the winning team of Gerry Mc.Cabe, Damien Taaffe and Gerry Crosby  by the sponsor Dermot Hanratty and his wife Patricia.


All 24 bowlers who had competed on the final night were presented with crystal trophies on inscribed mahogany bases as was the umpire for the finals, Donal Quigley, Kilkerley.  Club Chairman Donal Quigley congratulated the winners and praised everyone who took part over the 5 nights.  A special thank you to Kilkerley Development Group for the use of the Community Centre, the Club members who helped in any way and especially to Dermot Hanratty for his continued generous support of this popular Open Triples Tournament.
