Darver is one of the longest running Tournaments in the Zone and over the years has seen many great players lift the trophy. There was some wonderful mathes played in the qualifying nights, some unbeleavable bowls and even bigger surprises. John Maguire was the umpire for the finals night. |

After 4 fantastic Qualifying Nights the draw came out as follows:
Quarter Final Draw:
Jim Harmon v Nick Garvey; Shane Finnegan v Noel Mackin, Heuston Wilson v Paul Duff Trevor Morrison v Jn McMahon

Ollie Halpenny and Jim Harmon could do no wrong in their match with Sile and Nick Garvey winning 11-0 with a few ends left.
Aidan Brennan and Shane Finnegan were invovled in a close contest with Philip and Noel Mackin with Shane getting some vital last shots and in the end it took a great last bowl by Noel to force an extra end with Noel coming out victorious.
Beth and Heuston Wilson were having a great tussle with Shane Hand and Paul Duff and after 3 end could not be seperated. Paul picked up a count of 3 shots but 2 ends later Heuston levelled it 6-6.With Paul throwing the last bowl of the game, with the scores tied and game against, he took the Heuston's shot bowl out and went through to the next round.
Trevor Morrison was having a close contest with Carol and John McMahon with John 3-2 to the good after 4 ends. However in the next end John picked up 3 shots and in the end ecruised home 11-3 with an end to spare.

In the semis Jim Harmon was having a close game with Noel Mackin and at the halfway stage the score was 4-2 in favor of the Mackin's with Noel playing some great drawing shots. Mackins pulled ahead in the 2nd half of the match to win 8-3 with an end to go.
In the other semi final Shane and Paul got off to a great start with Paul playing som brilliant drawing shots. Carol and John fought back however and after 5 ends the score was 6-3 to Paul. Carol and John seemed to be getting the all important shots when it counted and playing the last end could not be seperated. Carol drew a perfect bowl right on the jak to win the game.

The Final: Philip and Noel Mackin v Carol and John McMahon
The Mackins got off to a flying start racing into a 6-2 lead. In the 4th end however, they had a very loose end and dropped 4 shots to level the score at 6 apiece. They Mackin's went on a charge and won the next 3 ends to lead 10-6. Philip was playing exceptionally well. John won the next end but once again the Mackins bounced back to take a 12-7 lead with 2 ends left. John managed to get 1 to take the score to 12-8 last end. John had a chance to play a bowl out to lie 4 shots but just missed which left Philip and Noel 2009 Darver Pairs Champions. |
