The Mae Flanagan Memorial National Over 55’s Pairs took place on Monday Night in Cullyhanna with some great matches played throughout.
Section A
First Round
In round 1, we started with Thomas Martin taking on Gerry McElroy and Thomas came out with the win. Philip O’Rourke managed to beat Sean Conlan. Rory Kelly got the result against Sean Marmium and Anthony Reel got the better of John Boyle.

Quarter Finals
We then moved on to the quarter finals, where Thomas Martin got a good win against Philip O’Rourke. Anthony Reel’s pair continued their good form to get passed Rory Kelly. Sean Kelly got their night underway with a win against Tom Devin. And finally John McMahon managed to get passed Sean Smyth.

Semi Finals
For the last round of the night we had an interesting match-up between Thomas Martin and Anthony Reel. With Thomas being part of the pair that won the all-Ireland over 55s last year he was hoping to continue the defence of the title, however Anthony Reel’s pair played extremely well and managed to win the game out and qualify for finals night. The other semi final was another strong match-up between Sean Conroy and John McMahon, and in this one John was able to come through in the end.

This sets up a tasty matchup between Noel Mackin and Anthony Reel of Cullyhanna to go up against John McMahon and Enda Traynor from Killanny on finals night. Best of luck to them both!

Section B
First Round
To start off section B, Jim Hanratty got the better of Gerry O’Hare. Bernie Cunningham got a good win against Oliver Donaldson. Micky Hayes and Jim Harmon had a good tight game with Micky coming through as the winner. Michael Hand got his title defence off to a good start with a win over Tom Rushe.

Quarter Finals
In the quarter finals Jim Hanratty and Bernie Cunningham had a close game, and Bernie was able to come out on top. Michael Hand got another good win against Micky Hayes. Michael Cunningham managed to beat Patsy Burns, and Michael Fitzsimons beat Bernie Hamil.

Semi Finals
To finish off the night we had 2 close encounters. The first was Bernie Cunningham and Michael Hand, and Michael was able to come through and qualify. On the other side Michael Cunningham got the better of Michael Fitzsimons.

For finals night this sets up a Corduff v Killanny clash with Jim Fox and Michael Hand going up against Michael Cunningham and Greg Marron. Best of luck to both pairs in January.

Big thank you to Cullyhanna for hosting the tournament and to everyone who came out to support it!
